Khanty and Mansi

Khanty and Mansi are the original inhabitants of the Western Siberia - the region, where 60% of Russian petroleum is being mined.  The aborigines never succeeded from their land's wealth. Now there are only about 22 000 Khanty and 8 000 Mansi living in Siberia and Ural. The culture of Khanty and Mansi is notable for a variety of myths and original music. Being persecuted both by the Orthodox church in the Tsar time and later by the Soviet regime shamans and  narrators saved old songs and tales remaining true to old confession and traditions.
